try to realize it's all within yourself, no-one else can make you change

and to see you're really only very small, and life flows on within you and without you.

made it!

well, friends, i made it!!

my mom and i have been here in belize since monday and are currently staying at barton creek outpost with jim and jacquelyn britt. their place is about 45 minutes off the highway from san ignacio town. it's beautiful and we are having a great time settling me in. there are a few volunteers here at the moment, 2 from the uk, 1 from seattle, and 1 from san fran. it's been really great getting to meet new people. and the kids (the whole reason i'm here) are awesome! kaitlyn, the oldest, has been sick and so i haven't started with her yet. logan is next in age and he and i got started reading The BFG yesterday and started with some spelling/sight words. cyan is the youngest and just adorable. she is 5 days older than my niece shannon and my mom is loving being called "grandma" by a tiny voice. what great kids!!

much to contrary belief, we have not really been seeing the effects of hurricane alex. i know that in the states it looks like the hurricane is going right through belize, but the people here will respond, "what hurricane?" if told about it.

so far i have been sweating! the creek at the outpost is a cool relief from the heat... and i never refuse a chance to swim! today my mom and i hitched a ride into town with jim and got to walk around san ignacio. we went to a maya ruin site in town called cahal pech. cahal pech is where the royals lived. in the ball court there was a tree there that was two trees growing as one and we scattered some of my grandparents ashes there.

we're now sitting in a little bar called flayva's. my mom got some mango juice and i got a lime juice!! delicious!!

hope to write again soon... jim said that he's going to try and set up the internet connection at barton creek and that would be exciting!!

miss you all and i send my love.

spontaneity at it's best

well my friends, when does life ever go as planned?

kristi drexler (a friend of mine) emailed me a few days ago and asked me if i would be interested in going down to belize for the rest of summer and home schooling some kids... and um, YES! what other answer was there? so my plans have changed. i quit my jobs. i'm dotting my i's and crossing t's and eeek! i'm moving!
as many of you probably know i was planning on going to belize in september for my last semester of school to student teach, but now i'm going to be leaving the US in approximately 3 weeks! i'll be getting the opportunity to teach some awesome kids until september when i'll be starting my student teaching in orange walk! i can't stop smiling. i'm beyond excited. and now i'm going to try and perfect the art of blogging.
life is wonderful.
